Woman Sentenced in Drunken Driving Crash That Killed a Soccer Coach
A judge sentenced a Riverside woman to spend six years and four months in prison for killing a soccer coach while driving under the influence of alcohol.
Ian Rezende, 48, a children’s soccer coach from Corona and a father of four died after being taken to the hospital from a DUI crash. His son, a passenger in his car suffered major injuries.
Verlyn Irene Haynes, 30 was driving home after having several beers at a friend’s house when she hit Rezende. She told police “I think I dozed off a little and I hit him,” according to court records.
In March Haynes pleaded guilty to charges of DUI vehicular manslaughter without gross negligence and DUI with great bodily injury.

In California, it is unlawful for any person to drive a vehicle while under the influence of any kind of alcoholic beverage or drug.
If you have 0.08 percent or more, by weight, blood alcohol concentration, you will be charged with DUI or driving while intoxicated if arrested. You may face a fine and jail time if convicted.
