Willis Sentenced to Four Years in Prison for The Fatal Del Mar Drunk Driving Crash

In a Vista court professional surfer, Milton Willis was sentenced to four years in state prison by Judge Daniel Goldstein for the 2008 fatal Del Mar DUI crash that killed passenger Bradley Dillahunty.

On June 18, 53 year-old Willis pleaded not guilty to gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated for the June 6 DUI fatal accident that took the life of 24 year-old Laguna Niguel resident Dillahunty. Willis was also seriously injured in the DUI crash.

Willis was driving Dillahunty’s Toyota Avalon when he lost control and hit a palm tree traveling 65 mph in a 25 mph zone around 1:40 in the morning on Coast Boulevard. According to Sheriff’s officials, there was a strong odor of alcohol and thought that drinking was a “major” cause in the Del Mar drunk driving crash.

Driving Under the Influence in San Diego County

The maximum sentence for the above case could have been 10 years in state prison. In California, it is unlawful for any person to drive a vehicle while under the influence of any kind of alcoholic beverage or drug.

If you have 0.08 percent or more, by weight, blood alcohol concentration, BAC, you will be charged with DUI or driving while intoxicated if arrested. You may face a fine and jail time if convicted.
