San Diego Man Sentenced in Fatal DUI Crash
A San Diego man who was suspected of DUI and who pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter last April was sentenced to prison on Thursday for causing a fatal head-on collision.
Silverio Romero, of Vista was suspected of driving under the influence while leading police on a high speed chase at speeds over 100 mph when he crashed his 2001 Ford Explorer in a head-on collision that took the life of Douglas Tarry of Moreno Valley in Riverside County. Tarry, 27 was pronounced dead a short time after being airlifted to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido.
The DUI driver who lost his leg in the DUI accident was driving south on Interstate 15 without a license at the time of the San Diego fatal DUI crash. Enough evidence was presented to Judge Aaron Katz for Romero to stand trial for gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, murder, felony DUI with injury, felony evading causing great bodily injury and driving without a license.
Romero was sentenced to almost 18 years in prison for the fatal San Diego DUI crash.
