San Diego Woman Accused of DUI Fatality in Poway Will Stand Trial
A San Diego preliminary hearing that took place today for a woman who allegedly struck and killed a pedestrian walking down a street in Poway in a DUI related fatality is set to go to trial..
Poway resident and single mom Kristen Ann Bedard, 36, was walking down Community Road and Aubrey Street on her way to her job at Target on November 23 when she was struck and killed by 45 year-old Beck Marie Anderson who was allegedly driving under the influence of depressants around 7:00a.m. in the morning.
Anderson said she had taken about three Valium pills and took a 200 milligram dose of Methadone before the fatal Poway DUI accident occured. According to a witness she was trying to light a cigarette and use the radio which distracted her.
The DUI driver has had two other DUI convictions, one in 1998 and another in 1999, both in Minnesota, according to Deputy District Attorney Ted Minahan. Anderson, if convicted for gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated will be facing 15 years to life in prison. Her arraignment is scheduled for March 2 in San Diego Superior Court where a trial date will be set.
