San Diego DUI Suspect from Carlsbad Has Preliminary Hearing Scheduled

A San Diego DUI suspect from Carlsbad has a preliminary hearing set on Monday for allegedly trying to hit a police officer with her car.

Bonnie Jean Bass, 58, of Carlsbad, was taken into custody on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, DUI, and felony evading on July 12. The woman accused of DUI was found by a border patrol agent in her car near Carlsbad Boulevard and Ponto Drive in the center of the median, facing the wrong way. When police officers arrived at the scene after being called, the woman started her car and began to drive toward one of the police officers. He jumped out of the way to avoid being hit.

A police chase began that lasted four minutes and ended after the car of the woman who was suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol ran out of gas. When Bass would not surrender herself to the officers, she was forced out of the window of her vehicle, after the officers had to break it.

Bass was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, driving while intoxicated and felony evading. A preliminary hearing is scheduled on Monday.
