Chula Vista DUI Results in Fatal Accident
The suspected Chula Vista drunk driver was driving northbound on interstate 805 with seven passengers overcrowding his Honda Civic when the Civic collided with another vehicle that ultimately killed a teenager in the car.
The DUI accident involved thirteen people in two cars resulting in the Honda Civic bursting into flames. The California Highway Patrol’s final report on the accident is still in progress. In San Diego, Roman Martinez the driver is currently in jail on drunk driving and second degree murder charges as well as having a prior DUI conviction. Martinez has a court appearance on Thursday where he is scheduled to appear.
The teen killed was Eileen Dominique Miranda of Chula Vista. Marissa Tapia-Miranda, the mother of the victim is explains that this whole situation is a nightmare that she wants to end. “I don’t understand why these DUI drivers promise not to do it again, and then it happens again, and an innocent person is killed.” The San Diego DUI crash occurred along the freeway near East H Street around 5:15 pm on the 25th of September.
Martinez’ bail is set for 2.5 million however he will face immigration charges instead of bail. There will be a preliminary hearing to establish whether there is sufficient evidence to have a trial in early January.
