San Diego DUI Leads the Nation in Alcohol Related Convictions

San Diego DUI violations ranks highest on a list of alcohol related convictions in the nation, by information and data collected by insurance.com.

San Diego DUI convictions ranks at the top of 20 cities in the nation for the largest number of alcohol rated DUI violations. According to the San Diego Police Department, there were approximately 4400 people arrested for San Diego DUI violations. One reason there are more San Diego DUI arrests is because there are more police implementing the law.

Bernard Gonzales, spokesman for the Chula Vista Police Department said, “I think law enforcement in San Diego County reflects what the community wants,” “Really it’s about enforcement and education. We want people to know, we are out there and hopefully it will lead people to changing their behavior,” said Gonzales.

In 2009 there were 20 San Diego DUI checkpoints, where field sobriety tests were conducted and 20 San Diego saturation patrols that were funded by grants, held by the San Diego Police Department. Their goal is to keep those driving while intoxicated off the roads. San Jose ranked 2nd on the list of alcohol related convictions while Los Angels ranked 7th.

Driving Under the Influence in San Diego County

Driving under the influence of any alcoholic beverage or drug in California is against the law.

If you have a 0.08 percent or more by weight, of alcohol in your blood, you will be charged with a DUI if apprehended. You could be facing fines and jail time if convicted.
