55 San Diego DUI Arrests over the New Year’s Weekend

San Diego police and law enforcement were heightened over the New Year’s holiday weekend in an effort to reduce San Diego drunken drivers on the road.

In San Diego there were fifty five people arrested for driving under the influence, DUI, from Friday night to 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, according to the California Highway Patrol Officer Ray Scheidnes. Sobriety checkpoints were set up all throughout San Diego County.

According to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office, there was one San Diego DUI fatality. A pedestrian was killed by a suspected drunken driver in La Mesa on Saturday, around 1:00 a.m. In the state of California, the California Highway patrol stated there were 12 DUI related fatalities and 873 motorists were taken into custody on suspected DUI.
