San Diego DUI Arrests Net 160 Over Super Bowl Weekend

San Diego DUI arrests were up 18.5 percent over last year during the Super Bowl weekend.

There were 160 people taken into custody this year over the Super Bowl weekend for San Diego DUI or driving under the influence. San Diego DUI Checkpoints and saturation patrols were added. In 2010, during the same time there were 135 motorists arrested for San Diego DUI and one fatality. According to Sheriff’s officials, there were no fatalities this year.

The San Diego County Avoid the 14 DUI Task Force will be arranging particular patrols in over 20 communities around San Diego County on Sunday adding extra law enforcement. A shared task involving the National Football League, MADD, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the Hero Campaign, and Techniques for Effective Alcohol Management Coalition to raise awareness about the dangers of drinking and driving in a national public education campaign called “Fans Don’t Let Fans Drive Drunk.”
