San Diego Resident Pushing for Change in Teen DUI Laws
Erin Limonchi of San Diego is working her way to change teen DUI laws after her mother, Pamela Sue Marabeas, who was killed by an underage San Diego drunk driver in September of 2009.
Marabeas, an X-Ray technician was hit by a seventeen year old girl at Mission Gorge Road and Highway 125 where the San Diego resident was killed. It upsets Limonchi that the teenage drunk driver didn’t receive a harsh enough punishment for her mother’s lost life. According to Limonchi, "The time allotted to her was not significant enough that we feel was adequate enough for taking somebody's life," she explained.
It is Limonchi’s mission to change the DUI laws regarding teenage drunk drivers. She feels that if a drunken teenager that gets behind the wheel resulting in an injury or death to another driver, then that teen should be tried in adult court. Limonchi also states that "If you really injure or kill somebody, how is that going to weigh on you the rest of your life, how is that going to change your family members' lives and how is that going to change the lives of those who you inflicted the pain on?"
Limonchi is encouraging people not to drink and drive this Super Bowl weekend. She knows that her mother would support the change in underage DUI laws regarding injury or death. She explains that she has already been in contact with a legislator who is willing to write it.
